This problem developed when I was not initally at the club so I cannot be sure that what I was told was definitely correct but the story seems to make sense. When trying to save a new event the program stop responding with the usual Microsoft message - after forcing it to close and restarting the problem occurred again and after a shut down and restart the program started with a "System Error" report and then would not run.

I went to club and tried a start in Safe Mode and then a normal restart but could still not get is to run - the same System Error etc.

In desperation, after backing up the date base etc, I uninstalled and reinstalled, copied in the Data Base etc and all was well.

It seems to me that a windows program should be able to recover from crashes without the need for reinstallation and I would appreciated any advice on what files can get corrupted to result in this situation so that I can avoid the need for a full reinstall to fix it.

Now that you have reinstalled I have no idea what caused the problem.
I suspect not latest SP was in use, corrupted event, files etc etc.
If you want my help please ask before destroying all evidence.

Many thanks for your response.

I really had no option other than to reinstall as the Director was in a state of great anxiety and needed to score the session.

I did make a copy of the ASE8 Directory before uninstalling so there may be some information there that could be of some use.

Let me know if you would like any of this sent to you or if there is somewhere I can look to get a clue as to what may have gone wrong.

It is very frustrating when we have some marginally competent directors who should never be let near a computer - it is the old story of 80% of the problems being caused by 20% of the people!

Thanks again and congratulations on the new system - I have been experimenting with reports this morning and am most impressed with what can be extracted.
