Tony Howes asked:

I have two events, the Mens pairs and the Womens Pairs.

In the Mens I have 10 tables with one field over 4 weeks and propose:-
Weeks 1and 3 - 10 table Skip mitchell
Weeks 2 and 4 - 2 * 5 table howells - scored across the field.

I presume that I should set the event up as one winner, but for the 10 table mitchell can I use 2 winners for those weeks.
Also how does the system know to score across the field for the 2 howells.

In the Womens I have 16 tables with two weeks qualifing and 2 weeks finals. For the Qualifying I have a N/S and an E/W field, with 2 * 8 table mitchells scored across the field, do I need 2 winners and will the system keep the N/S and E/W fields seperate over the two weeks?

Is there any thing else that I need to know?

There are a number of options involved here.

The pair's "outright numbers" dictate how the results are combined from each of the sessions.
A pair's score in one session will be added to the "outright pair number's" score in a second session, irrespective of the number of winners.

Each session has a "number of winners" option in the session properties.
This is used to tell whether pair 2 NS is the same pair as 2 EW. 1 Winner they are the same pair, 2 winners they are different pairs. Therefore if you use uniques numbers in the session then the 1 winner can be used, otherwise 2 are needed. Even so, with unique pair numbers you may choose to use 2 winners.

The number of winners in a session must be the same for all sessions. Otherwise it makes no sense. A Mitchell can have 1 winner, just the comparisons are poor (though not a poor as some people believe). Where the results are being combined over several sessions you clearly are intending to have one winner unless the NS and EW fields are kept entirely separate for the whole event. As soon as one pair sits in the opposite direction then one field is being scored.

"Score across the field" is the default unless you choose the option "Score sections separately" in the first score-up screen. In this case all section's scores are kept separate for the purpose of match-pointing. It does not effect the outright scoring or the "one or two fields" options. The "factor to tables" option is used here though. All sections scores will be factored to that number of tables in the results. Therefore the section's scores are comparable and may be totaled to give a meaningful results without using the "accumulate percentages" option.

In the "outright options" of the first score options screen includes a "Winners" option. This is used in production of the results in the outright field, event though they all have unique numbers. For this to be realistic it is up to you to make sure the NS always stay NS (EW similar) otherwise the results will not be correct. The masterpoint calculations are different because of this option.

Find another scorer that can handle this!
