Most of the clubs where I work run sessions as walk-in month events. For instance the 4 Fridays in November would be run as 1 event, Nov - Friday.
This has a number of advantages.
(1) It's easier for monthly (or quarterly) masterpointing & ratings since we have 1 event to finalise for each day of the week, rather than four or five.
(2) It's easier for directors to maintain since adding a session is routine - don't have to do any naming - and avoids problems with different MP grades on different days.
(3) It allows us to run month competitions, offering extra prizes &/or MPs while encouraging more frequent attendance. This is much easier in ASE8 than ASE7 because "link names" works very well, then you can take say best 2 of 4 or 3 or 5 via "best results."

All good but ASE8 reasonably assumes that subsequent sessions of an event have the same number of tables as session one, hence the same masterpooint awards. When the director hits [Score] and chooses the default "the current session using previous options" the masterpoints will be wrong if the number of tables is different from week 1. Many directors won't notice this, nor should they be expected to.
The necessary procedure for weeks 2 and beyond is to select the 3rd scoring optin "the current session after changing the options" then step through the screens, remembering to click [recalculate] on the way through.
Two software solutions suggest themselves
(1) The default score option could be the third one, steering directors down the correct path. This however would mean extra clicking for fair-dinkum events like Swiss teams, where session MPs won't vary. Not clear.
(2) The program could read the CURRENT session size when working out the MPs. This at least presumably would obviate the need to hit [recalculate].

That is a bug.
It is designed to do as option 1, but is not aware the session has not been scored.
The best solution is a combination of 1 and 2.
Currently when [score] "using prior options" is done, the "factor to tables" is automatically set to match the number of tables/rounds in the session. The correction in the next release is to automatically set the Masterpoints to match the number of tables. This takes away the need for the director to think about anything :)
