Hi All,

I had created a shortcut on the desktop for our director and this is how he was accessing the programme. ASE*8 takes a while to open up when you double click on the desktop icon??John was assuming he didn?t click it properly and was double clicking again. This locks up your programme( I ran a couple of tests to see if this was in fact the problem) and wont let you have access again. Don?t know why it prevents access again , as normally this just freezes the pc and you have to re-boot but with ase8 it completely locks the programme. So I have deleted the shortcut icon and have our director accessing through the start menu and everything has been fine.

Thanks
Peter :) :) :)

The ASE8 program (application) has underneath a service (process) called ase007.exe. Surprise, the ASE 8 program still uses the most reliable version 7 "engine". What happens when you start it twice in quick succession is the two copies get the ase007 underneath all mixed up, and it does gets its messages to the ASE8 all confused. Hence the hang.

When this happens use ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and stop the ase007.exe process (end process). Also close the ase8 application if it is still running. Start the scorer again (but only once).

The problem with just restarting windows is it is just so clever. It restarts the process ase007 again! The problem does not go away.

BTW if you do start ase8 a second time (once the screen is showing) all is OK, it just simply gives focus to the existing screen.
