An error saying 'invalid class string' as soon as autostart for Bridgemates is clicked has been reported.
Bridgemate Software version 1.7.20 does not include the 3.5 engine.
Bridge Systems promised me it will be shipped again in the next version.
In the mean time the only way to solve the problem is to install version 1.6.28 first and then install version 1.7.20 on top of it. (Don’t uninstall 1.6.28 as that would delete the 3.5 engine as well!)
