Ian
At present event files are saved in the location from which the most recent file was opened.
This means that if directors are not careful files can be saved in inappropriate locations that make them difficult to find at a later date.
Would it be possible to make the default file location for event files as one of the areas that needs to be selected in the System default screen?
Many thanks
Neville
The general philosophy in the system is to remember where files of any nature are placed previously. By keeping all your events in one place the system will always place them there. That is as good as, if not better than, a default.

Thanks Ian
The problem is (and it happens at both the clubs where I direct) is that a director will need to recover a backup and then inadvertantly saves the recovered file to the backup directory instead of the normal location for the current event files.
From that point on all new events are stored in the backup directory until this is spotted by someone like myself who then has to move the files to the correct location and open one of them in that location so that new events will be correctly stored.
A similar thing might occur when a visiting director sets up a new directory specifically for the files for the events he or she is directing.

I do not understand. That is not the way it works.
If you use the [recover backup] option then it suggest you save in the same place that your last event was, not where your backups are. After this if you create a new event then the same event directory is used, not backup. You need to go out of your way to save an event in the backup directory.

Hi again Ian
To keep our Event Files tidy at the end of each month we create a sub folder in the events folder named say 200904 (for April 2009's event files) and place all the event files for that month in that folder.
This way only the current month's files are visible in the parent folder.
If for some reason it is necessary to reopen one of the files from a previous month then the next time a new event is set up the default will save the new event in that month's folder instead of the parent folder unless the Director makes a point of checking where it is being saved.
Some of our directors are somewhat computer challenged and I find that they do not do so and subsequent events are saved in the incorrect folder until I notice what has happened and move them to the correct place.
Is there a solution?
Regards
Neville
The recommended procedure is to use the "backup" methods.
When you finalize an event make a backup, which is placed in the [system][deafults] "Path to backup files" and done automatically if "Backup event files during finalization" is ticked.
Also you have the option during finalization to delete the event when asked: "Do you wish to delete the event file?" Using automatic backup and then delete is neatest.
If you need to go to the backup, use [recover backup] and if you do not save the event but simply look at it then the backup is all that you ever need to use for old events.
Also you have the option to [file][make backup] at any time.
Using this procedure the placement of the event files remains consistent.
