View Full Version : Network file as "members/club" database?

Hello Ian,
Our club has two computers: a desktop and a laptop. But I only want to maintain one "Club Database" file (the "club.gdb" file in the "Masterfile" folder).
I brought ASE 8 on the laptop up to SP 74 (to match ASE 8 on the desktop), made the "ASE8Data" folder on the desktop sharable (and writeable), assigned network drive S: (for scoring) on the laptop to this network folder, and then tried to set the network "club.gdb" file as the "Club database" on the Club/Options page.
But ASE8 hung as soon as I tried to do anything with it.

Am I expecting too much, or can it be made to work this way?

The alternative would seem to be: if scoring on the laptop, do it locally, and at the end of the event, copy the event file to the desktop; then, on the desktop, re-open, re-score and re-finalise the event.

Regards,
David

If using Vista make sure you are using Firebird 2.1

I am getting an error when I try to Open Server DB: "Failed to establish a connection. unknown Win32 error 10060"

Server is XP. Client is Vista. I have installed Firebird 2.1 on server. Client has embedded database installation.

What have I done wrong?
David.

PS. Other networking like Windows file sharing is working OK.

Install firebird 2.1 on client too.
Use non-embeded ASE

Ian,
I have it working, but in the reverse direction to what I want. With Vista as server and XP as client it works. But I want the XP desktop computer to be the server.

In the latter case I am getting error message: "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond." when I "Open Server DB".

I have Firebird 2.1 on both computers, and also re-installed ASE8 on both.
Have also re-booted everything just to make sure.

Any ideas?
David.
