Eliminating worst scores in multi-session events

Hi,

We have three 10 session events where we eliminate the worst score after 5 sessions and the worst 2 after 8 sessions. This year we have tried to use ASE 8 to manage the outright rankings and have just completed the fifth session. I expected to be able to:

1. Go to Results tab | Best Results button and there enter 5 and 1 to cause the cumulative results to eliminate each outright pairs worst score.
2. Go to Reports tab | Check the Use best scores check box | Outright button to produce the normal club specified Outright results report showing these adjusted outright results.

However what appears to happen is that all the existing specified reports go missing, and the report that is displayed shows something like the session results for the latest session.

My first question is: Am I right that ASE 8 should be able to do what I want it to do, or have I misunderstood its intended functionality (in which case we will revert to manual calculation of outright results and outright masterpoints)?

If the answer to the first question is that it should, then any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I have missed?

You are right these two options appear to be related but are not.
Use one or the other.
1. Go to Results tab | Best Results button and there enter 5 and 1 to cause the cumulative results to eliminate each outright pairs worst score.
***Then produce the outright report as usual.****

If you use the second procedure it offers far more complex options including player ratings impacts etc.

Thanks Ian, that solves my major question.:)

One derivative question:

We use the text results files produced as part of Score Up to provide information to Milan's bridge-club.org results reporting service. This only seems to show the outright results pre adjustment for removing the worst scores.

Does the Results tab adjustment change the results text files? If so does it overwrite the pre adjustment files with the post adjustment files?

The outright results (and all results) are output to text files when scored. The [best results] option does not change the text files.

It can be done manually. Go to reports and tick "report select" - manual.
Right click [outright] and choose [change]
Then use [options][export raw data] and save the file over the existing text file for that session. The file name is like: "eventname""session no".ort
Then upload results.
