View Full Version : Default round robin teams scoring method causes loss of all scores

When we have a Round Robin Teams event, we normally collect the IMP scores for each match on result slips.
Having entered all these match results into ASE, you go to "Score Up". On the "Scoring Options" screen, the default "Scoring Method" is "IMPs from Boards"; if you don't change this to "Teams" you lose all the scores you have just put in, which is very annoying.
I guess it is a case of deciding what the default should be.
If it is the other way around those who want to score IMPS from boards and it is set to "TEAMS" then all their scores are zero. Maybe that is a better way to go. Of course if you do not have "auto save" on then all you do is "save" (ctrl-s) after data entry (or whenever it is a good time to save) and when something goes wrong open the event again without save.

This is not a question of default serving all customers. This is about providing the appropriate default given the customer's circumstances. With "score up", your software can determine that a remote entry device is being used, so you can safely default to "IMPs from Boards". Without a remote entry device, you can default to "Teams", for no one in their right mind would want to score by board (anyone wanting this level of detail would have used a remote entry device). The fact that you do not test for the presence of a remote entry device is a software problem. Consider replacing "IMPs from Boards" by "Input from Remote Entry", and the solution would satisfy everyone.
It is possible to enter scores manually. Remote scores is just one option.
Even so it should be possible to improve the selection of the right scoring method option.
The scoring method in teams will be handled differently in the next release. When you choose to [score up] "The current session after changing the options" the scoring method will be blank and the TD will need to select the method before proceeding.

I'm often in my right mind & I often score manually from datum sheets, such as a teams congress in a club without bridgepads. This is faster & more accurate than VP slips plus players get full internet feedback. Can also produce board datums and do a Butler Pairs within the Swiss Teams.
