Database installation
The Database is InterBase by Borland. Make a choice between the original product from Borland and the free open
source version "Firebird". The availability of these products will
vary with time, but generally you get a lot more with the the Interbase from
Borland but this is only more useful if you are a developer or intend to get
into database management in a bigger way.
You will need to install the client/server
edition for Windows. You can purchase this from Borland in your country (about
$US70), if you do not already have it. Any purchased version has full support
and documentation.
Alternative and recommended open source (free) version is available from
FireBird. See http://www.firebirdsql.org/ for
more details. Firebird install kit is available from this site at
Firebird-1.5.3.4870-0-Win32.exe
(2.7 Mb). If your machine has Windows XP installed then it is essential
that you use Interbase 7.1 or the open source Firebird 1.5. The
performance of the earlier version 6.0.2.0 is very poor in Windows XP.
Using the Firebird product is simple and cheap and as far as the ASE Scorer
is concerned is all you really need.
Once the database software is installed you will no longer need to worry
about its installation in any later updates.
See Borland
for a discussion on the technical aspects of Interbase. If you wish to order Interbase from Borland go to the Borland

ASE Scorer 8 is developed and tested using Version 7.1 of Borland Interbase. If your machine has Windows XP installed then it is essential that you
use Interbase 7.1 or the open source Firebird 1.5. The performance of earlier
versions are very poor in Windows XP.
Make sure you install both CLIENT AND SERVER
