The [file] menu has the following options:

Open

You are presented with the option of opening four different file types:

1.Portable bridge notation (*.pbn)

2.DOS duplimate document (*.dup)

3.Bridge Base Online (*.lin)

4.Bridge format documents (*.bri)

The PBN files may have been produced by other PBN editors. All other file types are assumed to be correct, and every attempt will be made to read them. Once a file is read into memory it can only be saved in the PBN format.

Prior to opening a new file, if the currently opened file has been changed you will be given the option to save it.

Save

The current file will be saved to disk in the PBN format. If the file has not been previously named the [Save as] option will be used.

New

This will create a new file, with the first random deal the only one available. Prior to creating the new file, if the currently opened file has been changed you will be given the option to save it.

Save as

The current file will be saved to disk in the PBN format using a new name of your choice. If the file already exists you will be given the option of replacing the existing file or choosing a new name. The file saved will automatically have the default extension of '.pbn'.

Merge PBN

You will be given the option of opening a PBN file which will be appended to the end of the existing in memory file. The 'deal numbers' of the appended deals will be sequenced from the last in the current file. The file will need to be saved before these additional deals are permanently included in the file.

Import Movie

You will be given the option of opening a .mve file which has been produced by the [export as movie] option in Jill . This imported file will not have a name and if changes are made you will need to [save as] a PBN file or [export as movie] before the changes are permanent.

Prior to importing the file, if the currently opened file has been changed you will be given the option to save it.

Export as a movie

The current in memory file will be saved to disk in the  Jill movie format using a name of your choice. If the file already exists you will be given the option of replacing the existing file or choosing a new name. The file saved will automatically have the default extension of '.mve'.

The movie file cannot be used by any other programs other than  Jill. This format of file is used to maintain the security of your data. These file types are distributed with the movie shows and can only be used by that show. Use the  Jill [movie show wizard] to produce a movie show with your movie files.

Export as HTML

The current in memory file will be saved to disk in HTML file format using a name of your choice. If the file already exists you will be given the option of replacing the existing file or choosing a new name. The file saved will automatically have the default extension of '.htm'. You will have the option of loading the file into your browser.

Export as a Word document

The current in memory file will be saved to disk in Microsoft Word document file format using a name of your choice. If the file already exists you will be given the option of replacing the existing file or choosing a new name. The file saved will automatically have the default extension of '.doc'. You will have the option of loading the file into Microsoft Word for editing and printing.

Play movie

This will preview the movie in  Jill. The movie is defined by using [define movie] in the options menu. If a movie has not been defined for the current deal a default movie will be shown. The default is to show all the bidding, followed by all the play, with pauses as defined by the [trick speed] settings in the options menu.

Exit

Jill will be closed, first checking if the currently opened file has been changed and you will be given the option to save it.
