Again North is the dealer. Each of the 4 players have 13 cards, sorted into the suits. Of course at the table each player only sees their own cards at this point.

The next thing the players must do is bid to arrive at a contract. The bidding starts with the dealer and proceeds in a clockwise fashion.

The bids made will consist of a level, 1 through 7 and a suit, \S, \H, \D or \C.

Press [OK] to save and close the editor screen.

Enter bidding comments.

Double click the 1 bid on the lower left of the main screen. The 'notes and annotation screen' will appear. Click note 1 or select note 1 in the pull down combo box at the top (this is note 1 for bids). Copy the following text into the 'note text' box:

North goes first, being the dealer. Having above average strength in honour cards, North is inclined to undertake a contract. North first pick for trumps is spades, the longest suit in his hand. North bids 1\s.

Click the 100-199 bullet on the lower right of screen. Click and mark as checked annotation number 110, 'Show notes before bid/play and wait'.

Click the 2 bid on the lower left of the main screen. In the notes and annotation screen click note 2 or select note 2 in the pull down combo box at the top. Copy the following text into the 'note text' box:

East does not bid, but passes. South is happy with the choice of spades too, and so raises Norths bid of 1\s to 2\s.
